Chuck the flowmaster and you'll find a new love for your car.. flowmaster exhaust sounds generic and toneless on these cars.

The main contributors to the sound of a car are the firing order, apipe size , restriction and or muffler type.
I said around, I was only guessing the CR of the stock versions. Besides most of the old engines I have been around are worked and are well above 12 to 1. Most I work with are 13 to 1 and up ( and yes these are street cars). I agree with your last sentence but the CR gives the exhaust a real nice "pop".

yea i think they have liek a 8:1 or 8.5:1 ratio...they also have true dual i think they but yea they seem to have a cleaner sound than the LT1 but soon ill have my loudmouth on and hopefully itll be bada$$...i plan on keeping stock manifolds and stuff so i figure itll be bearable...

i agree, most of it has to do with the compression/no emissions or cats.

these cars can be made to sound BAD *** though. just put some money into it and it can sound as mean as u want it to

Sorry to disagree with most of you but I didn't see a mention of the most obvious reason Z28's don't sound as good. We don't have a true dual exhaust system. This is why a stang with headers can sound so excellent. I believe another source of the sound is the iron block. I've never heard an LS1 that sounded worth a crap

Well i hate to bust all yah bubbles but noone can tell u what sounds nice and what sounds ****, its a matter of opinion... some people like flowmaser and some people like borla.... but look, no matter what... our cars will never ever sound rice and i hate it when someone tries to judge the sound of a catback brand over a soundclip on the net...

Come on now... You older guy's will have to agree with me,
The main reason the "old 350's" sounded the way the did is all because the mufflers were located closer to the engine. My old 67 RS had headers with the mufflers bolted on to the collectors, that was it. The closer the muffler is the the engine, the louder and deeper the sound will be. Of course I agree with someone else that said true dual's adds to the "better" sound. I would put two washers between the collectors and muffler to let the exahust (cam) really talk. Man was it sweet!!! Our LT1's are no different than the "old 350" 's they can be made to sound just as good. Get rid of the cat, run true duals, (and I wish we had room) put the muffers right after the headers!!!
