Why can an LS1 get into low 11s.....

and an Lt1 can't(normally aspirated)?

I don't knowtoo much about the LS1s, but I do believe they run closer to 11:1 compression, other than that, what's the deal?

Well, first, an LT1 CAN get into the 11's NA on a healthy head and cam combo with slicks and a 12 bolt.

Second, the LS1 has a 50 hp head start on an LT1, and the LS1 loves to breathe up top.

LS1s have 10:1 compression not 11:1. The LS1 heads outflow their LT1 counterparts by 20%. Not to mention higher lift rocker arms, bigger throttle body and an aluminum block that cuts nearly 100 lbs off the front end. They also have a more efficient combustion chamber and an intake not prone to heat soak.

By the way, an LT1 can indeed run 11's NA...

I believe that the LS1 CR is more like 10:1 not 11:1.

And I agree that the Lt1 NA can hit 11s, no sweat, with the right combo and a good hook.

And I don't necessarily mean big cams, etc.

There are reportedly Lt1s with little cams getting into the 11s.

And as was mentioned, the LS1 come out of the box with a min. of 50 FWHP, mainly due to the heads.JMHO

You can get into the 11's with an LT1...the LS1 is just a better motor.

Ok, so I had no clue what the CR was, I just nknew it was higher than the LT1s, and figured I'd be safe by saying closer to 11:1.

Anyhow, just thought I would ask the question, I was looking at another active thread hear, and every one seemed to be telling the kid he couldn't get into the 11s.

i'm pretty sure the lt1 compression is 10.5:1 stock and the ls1 is 10:1. thats why the ls1 takes to boost better than the lt1. not to mention the difference in intake runner design and the "rolled" valve angle of ls1 heads. the extra flow alone from that makes a stock ls1 head flow like a ported lt1 head. that along with the afformentioned added lift from higher ratio rockers and a roller trunion to start with (if i'm not mistaken) is where most of the ls1 power comes from. and yes its true you can hit 11's with an lt1 even on stock heads look up frank95z last time i checked he's doing 11.44 or something like that with a very mild cam (for here anyway) on stock heads. its all combination not throwing parts at it that makes for a fast car

No doubt. I'm almost there with no motor mods at all.

You've been reading too much of the LS1 boys braggin The LS1 is easy to get into the TWELVES, 11s are not so easy. 11's still have to be thought out and the car has to be set up correctly. Once you get past the Bolt on advantage the LS1 has and really start getting into the motor they start to even out. My hot cam 93 ran a 12.6 when a Vortech aftercooled 2000 ran a 12.7 I believe his MPH was a few higher than mine though.

I guess my point in all this is while I'll agree an LS1 is easier to get into say mid 12's than an Lt1. Low 11's is a BIG jump from that and requires a good setup on either car. JMHO

He he. I surely didn't think I'd be shopping for a cage before doing any motor mods when I bought the car. Those times were in 80+ degree heat and a DA of about 2000. But I am running very light.

I might be wrong but it seems that lt1's can handle the abuse we give them alot better then a ls1.

i realize that the ls1 makes more juice stock v stock but i tell ya what, i've had nitrous, supercharger with 8 lbs of boost on it, all bone stock, the car is N/A again and it has 106 k miles on it, i just put down a 13.5 at 105mph at fontana, and that was no hook up and no air.

I love my lt1

There is a bolt on LT1 running 11.90's a green Trans Am on this board, he is alot heavier than 3100 lbs, That to my knowledge is the LT1 bolt on record, stock internals except for rocker arms.

The LS1 bolt on record is 11.36, a white Z28, Haufpauer I think he is on the LS1 boards.

There are many street driven stock bottom end head/cam LT1's running 11's.

There is a .5/.6 difference between an LS1 car and a LT1 car with same mods and weights. LS1 being quicker
