Afr 195 HP expectations

I am looking at doing a set of afr 195 heads and maybe a gm 847 or a custom cam. It’s gonna be stock bottom end for now the build a 383 or 396 in the future. My question is what kind of power could expect from that combo. Stock bottom end with afr eliminator 195 heads , long tubes, 58 mm tb , ported intake, etc. can 400 - 425 rwhp be possible?

Don’t know for sure, but can take a guess by looking at Lloyd Elliott performance claims for ported stock heads and his available cams.

AFR indicates the Street LT1 195’s flow 280 CFM @ 0.550 lift. Assume you are looking at the 54cc chambers. Sounds similar to the LE3 ported stock heads, which are claimed to be capable of 380 - 420 rwHP, depending on cam size. Lloyd indicates his largest cam is equivalent to the 847.

Just a guess.

Re: Afr 195 HP expectations

Do you know if the lt4 afr 195 will work with a stock lt1 intake or does it require a lt4 intake? Those lt4 heads flow around 310 cfm. The only thing that gets me about using the stock heads are the decks, I know they are not as thick as afr heads. Plus you are not using a 25 year old casting.

Re: Afr 195 HP expectations

AFR "suggested" intake for the LT4 heads is the factory LT4 intake or the Edelbrock LT4. The factory LT4 intake requires porting, because the factory LT4 intake ports match the factory LT1 heads. But they have sufficient extra metal at the top so they can be opened up to match the LT4 head raised runner ports.

Re: Afr 195 HP expectations

OP

whatever head you decide to go with and a cam like a 847.....consider the age/miles on your stock bottom end as it will see more stress with the increased RPM range of a cam like a 847 or custom variant of it

Heads & cam is where the power is made but the bottom end is the "pump" so it needs to be up to the higher power and RPM it will see as I doubt you will just be putting around with this new set-up
