Question whole optispark or cap n rotor

is it ok to just repalce the cap and rotor on the optispark or do i need to buy the hole unit? and is the cap n rotor you get at the local parts store as good as the dealer part?

most of the time i have heard the rebuilds don't really work so it cost way more to buy the rebuild kit and then have to buy a whole opti afterwords. Just get the GM opti now.

No, just pony up the extra few bucks and buy a new one. I made that mistake, and it was an expensive one!

Yes...purchase an ENTIRE GM optispark, not just the cap and rotor.

I'm on the whole opti bandwagon too! The whole unit was only $197 shipped to my door from Dal. Definately not worth messing around with a cap and rotor for that price.

My cap and rotor was very bad but the optical part was ok, the bearing was shot though. Get the whole opti and save yourself the hassle.

Just for the record I got mine from Advance auto and have not had any problems but for the price you might as well get the GM one.

Man, you are lucky. I have tried it threee times now, and keep getting just the optical sensor part of the opti, without the cap and rotor

The 93 and 94 optis are non-vented, so that makes them like a $100 more I guess. I will try to find the page that shows everything you need for the swap to a vented, which I think is worth it.

Do what you want. I changed the cap and rotor only 20,000 miles ago and I haven't had any problems.
