Who Wants a MSD Replacement for the Opticrap?
Right on!
That is exactly what LT1's have been missing since day 1. Also, I would love to be able to spin the stroker past 7,000 RPM's without blowing up my distributor!!
Count me in!!
E-mail me with updates!!
I can't wait,

i really dont see it being too dificult or expensive for msd develop something. with all their experience with spark systems it probably would be that simple. i could design a 100% waterproof housing for the optical section at work on cad in a few hours. if some one else could figure out the switching device it would be done
all the swithing device would have to do is switch the current form one coil to the next in the right order it couldnt be that hard.

Count me in also. It would be nice if msd could make the coil system like the ls1 and so many other gm cars have. Thats the way gm should have made it in the first place. I'll settle for an upgraded distributor though, as long as it's durable.

About 2 monthes ago, I was just so tired of my dirty engine compartment, so I went to one of those little quarter operated spray bays. I put the selector on "Engine Degreaser" Spray and just sprayed the hell out of it was clean. Probably about 2-3 minutes of a power-sprayer & soap, everything was basically soaked and dripping. When I was done, I started the engine. It didn't start up as easy as it normally does, but it did. Then I just drove off and everything was fine, later I heard about the touchy Optispark.
What I was wondering, is - does anyone have any similar stories? Just how bad is the optispark?

I would be interested I am about to replace one in my wifes car right now. An MSD would be a great alternative to just the stock replacment. And think of all the LT1 powered race cars. I know they would do it!

I've taken mine through countless car washes with the underbody spray cycle before I found out how delicate the opti's are, it would idle kinda rough for a moment but still going strong as ever at 80,000+miles. I might get a MSD opti if the price is decent and if they are more reliable than the blaster coils which I've read several complaints about on this site.

Anybody else...?
I heard a few monthes ago on this Board that some guy said he was driving in a bad rainstorm when he hit a big puddle, and the car stalled almost immediately after, leaving him about 1/4 mi. from a gas station.
Is this a big problem for anybody?
Also, isn't there a difference in what type of opti you have for the year of car you have, such as, I've heard some are vented, while other years aren't?

The optispark is a proven weak spot in the LT1. It usually isn't a question of "if" it will breakdown but "when". Typically the Opti doesn't last more than 100,000 miles, but the engines sure last a lot longer than that so replacing the opti is inevitable. Kinda like having to replace a clutch or rotors over time it is just something you have to do.
I am sure I will be replacing mine in the (hopefully) distant future and I would like more choice than to replace it with the same part that woreout/broke on me.
