Who is using a lower Alt. bracket

I know Madman Racing makes one but its like 175$ and all it is a alum. altanator bracket does any one else make one or have a pattern to make one because i have some 1/8" and 1/4" alum. that i can make one my self.

and the reason is because i have to take the alt. off every time to get the valve cover off on the right side.

Thanks for any info!!

Where are you trying to move the alternator? Retain a/c & ps and mount alt elsewhere? Remove a/c & ps and relocate alt?

To use the regular low-mount bracket, you'll need to get rid of AC and P/S. I know someone else was working on one that would retain the power steering, but I haven't seen anything yet.

FWIW, my Madman bracket should be here early this week.

Lemme see if I can dig up the post where the other bracket was being discussed. I "think" it was steve10 that was talking about it.

Steve10 actually makes these. I purchased one from him last summer and i am very happy with it. Looks much better than Madmans to me. Very good quality and a great guy to deal with.

I made my own bracket to reposition the alt to the lower drivers side of the motor and leave the ps & a/c in their original locations. Pics posted on my website

Sorry, I don't have any pics of the brackets themselves. I will get some better pics of the setup posted soon. Its just a tight spot to try to get some very detailed pics. After getting started with the bracketry, it really wasn't that difficult. The most time consuming part was getting the alt pulley PERFECTLY in line with the crank pulley. If its off at all, the belt will "walk" off of the pulley at high RPM's. After a few test fits, I got it lined up perfect. I originally planned on just using a slotted bracket on the alternator to adjust tension on the belt, but after getting started I decided to incorporate a tensioner into the mix. It went together real good. No problems at all so far with several runs to 6,900 rpms and I drive it daily. Not only is valve cover access a snap, I can now quickly and easily drop the AC & PS belt and run the alt only. The motor revs noticeably quicker with the alt only.

Nice job, Camaro SS! Is that your stock tensioner you are using?

Yes, that is an LT1 tensioner. The factory tensioner remains in place in the original location and this one is added to keep the "short" belt tight.

I have Steve10's braket, very well machined and qualtity parts.
I have not installed it yet because I am still working on the car.
I removed the A/C and P/s and bracket, not need on a drag car.
I pluged the Steering box with the original plug that the lines went into and taped out the holes and put in brass plugs and then drilled and tapped the plugs for zerk or grease fitting and now I can put in grease. It will most likely blow out the seals but I never plan on going back to PS.

The car now has skinnies on the front!
Next is a smaller steering wheel.
