Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?
Re: Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?
I've got an LT4 hotcam in my 96SS. Stock ported CNC heads. Car dyno'd 399 rwhp and would run 12.4 @ 115 mph full weight in the 1/4. It's a pretty strong hotcam car. I've got no real details on the heads other than they are expensive. I don't have the receipt in front of me but the labor charges for the port work only was right at $1800 I believe. So, while that is a bit expensive, they seem to do the job pretty good
Re: Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?
I had the HOTcam and a set of stock heads that I ported. I don't have any 1/4 numbers, but I do have some 1/8- First off it was a notoriously crappy track, and I was running 9.0 with CAI, headers, flowmaster exhaust, meziere pump and a set of drag radials. With the HOTcam, ported heads, a Midwest stall and a mail order tune it went 8.1 the first time down the track. The mph also went from 81.6 to 87. With a better converter and/or a dyno tune it would have been a solid 7 second car, which is respectable for something that will still get decent gas mileage, have a near stock powerband in the low end and will pass emmissions.
I don't have any flow numbers on the heads, they were my first attempt, so they probably weren't all that great. I had Manley RaceFlo intake and exhaust valves, and found out later on my second porting effort that the stock exhaust valve outflowed the Manley one on my set of heads. I was leaving 4 cfm or so on the table across the board with a peak of around 2 or 3 on the exhaust side. On the intake side the Manley valve flowed better than the stocker.
It was a blast to drive on the street, had good manners and sounded really nice. I did enjoy the HOTcam a lot. I get the general idea of what you're asking here, and all I can say is how much power you want to make is really up to how much money you want to spend. You can't really match a port job to some heads like you would match a cam to your specific combination. You could get the LE1 port from Lloyd and make good power, or you could pay more for the LE2 port and make more power. You saw above where Brent said he made 399 whp, but he paid accordingly for it. And that's a lot of power for a HOTcam.

Here is a great link that has exactly the info you are looking for and keep in mind this is a corvette so the RWHP #s are a little lower because of IRS.
