I think the XE 230/236 is quite a big larger than the 218/228 Hotcam. The only things close are the lift numbers and LSA. The dyno/times arent going to be a good representation of what a Hotcam is going to do.

Re: Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?

My '96 Z had LT4 AFR heads ported (by AFR) some would call them off the shelf. and LT4 Hot cam. With long tubes and no tune, I put down 363 rwhp and 333 rwtq. With the light flywheel I only managed 12.8 @ 112, but the person that bought it after me got a 12.4 @ 112 with a heavier flywheel.

That's probably pretty close to what you are going to see with the Hot cam, you've probably already heard this, but I'd recommend something bigger. The hot cam sounds and drives more aggressive than it performs. Yes it's an awesome sounding cam, yes it's a nice increase over stock power, but there are bigger cams that drive better and perform better. And if you are going with ported heads, you'll more utilize the heads with a bigger cam.

Thanks, That is the info I was searching for. 363rwhp and 12.4 1/4 w/o a tune is still strong.

Anyone else with stock ported LT1 heads and a Hotcam?

I would probably look at the CompCams 305 cam too. It's a little bit more aggressive [not much, just a little] then the HotCam, but idles closer to stock then the HotCam.

I have had the Hotcam for a year now, just looking for a proven set of heads to compliment the cam.

The hot cam is good for a car with stock heads. Any bigger heads will max it out around 370 rwhp. if that's your goal, then it should do fine. If you are looking closer to 400, find another cam.

Re: Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?

I made 350rwp and 360 rwtq with the hotcam any my present le heads. The heads were done about 2.5 years ago. The car would run consistently betwen 112-114mph. I never got better thand 12.74 because most times I went to the track I couldn't get more than a couple of runs in over a 3-4 hr time frame. I'm sure that I could have gone low 12s with more seat time. I really liked the hotcam, drivability was great. no cam surge and it pulled easily to 6500 rpms. My car also easily passed wisconsin emissions 2 times. once before it was tuned properly and was running pig rich. It's a great cam but like everyone says. You will want to go bigger eventually.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, so the heads were done by LE with the Hotcam? I was thinking of going with his LE1 heads, hard to beat the price and quality.

Re: Who is running ported LT1 heads with a Hotcam?

I'm running mildly ported LT1 castings and a hotcam kit in my purple pearl car. It makes 345 RWHP, 360 RWTQ. Due to having a 95+ T56 in a originally A4 93 car with 3.23 rear end gears, I've only gone a best of 12.988@107.98. The previous owner had it at a 12.69@105.88 with a 1.74 short time on the original A4 with a 3K stall, but that was also with a burnt up 2-3 clutch pack. We're swapping in 4.10's and a new clutch over the winter and are expecting to see mid-low 12's at 112ish if all goes well.

Yeah
The heads I ran with the hotcam were done by Lloyd. I got them before he was doing head/cam packages. If Iwere to start from scratch now I would go with an Le1 cam instead of the hotcam. The powerband is about the same but it makes more power across the board.

i have the hotcam and ported stock heads with stock valves. before the 1st bottom end rebuild, it dynoed 343rwhp and 348 rqtq with knock retard problems. the only good track run i had it went 12.9@ 109 with a 2.3 60 ft. on street tires.
