Who has LT headers w/o OVC wires?

OK, I'm doing some research before I pick up some headers, and I want to know what those of you with LT headers do with your plug wires if they aren't run over the valve covers? I was planning on just being careful how they are run, and using those high-temp sleeves to protect them. Which sleeves work and which should I avoid? What is the temp rating that I am looking for when looking for heat shielding like that? Thanks.

Any of the sleeves would probably be good enough. I'd just check them after the first couple of times you drive it to make sure they are OK.

I'm doing my long tube install right now and it looks like you could get away with stock routing no problem, but I'm going with the OTVC just so I don't have to worry about it.

Also, I've heard of people running uncoated headers with stock routing with no problems.

I'm running Jet-hot LTs with my STOCK wires routed in the stock positions. I just zip tied the ones that were close a little ways from the headers.

yep dont be skeered to use a couple zipties
i run OTVC Taylors with my Hooker LT's and used 4 zipties (eliminating chance of burning) one for every 2 wires, just tied them together in between the primaries, just snug enuf to get them away from the hot spots

If I can make a suggestion, I would just go and do the OVC or the Side mounts like I have to eliminate any chance of a problem. Not to mention it is such an easy project doing the OVC or sides to route the wires..... I have a pic of mine in my sig... Check them out. I had to cause the FLP LT I run have absolutly no room to do anything spark plug or wire related .

I had to reroute one wire, the no. 5 cylinder wire, down the bottom portion of the block near the oil pan, then back up, cause initially it burned up, but now I dont have any problems with wires burning, all the others are in the stock locations.

I have Hooker LTs with MSD wires without OVC, 5k on it and not one problem.
I did have to get creative with the routing so I would not burn a wire but its not that hard to do.
Zip ties are the key to it.

I use either the 1200 or 1500 degree sleeves, I forget which at the moment but havent had any problems and I think they help cut down on the chance of arcing wires (they don't use that as a selling point but from what I've seen they just tend to) but I could be wrong.

Thanks a lot for the info guys! I have thought about OVC wires, but I ended up going with MSD wires, since I have MSD everything else. Plus I think it looks a little cleaner with the plug wires staying down below, JMHO.

I ran wires in the stock route with sleeves, and eventually they got burnt. #5 was picky too.

Eventually they all just got so crummy I went OVC.

Taylor 8mm wires in almost stock locations. Just a few zipties here and there. Works fine after 2k for me

I have to OVC from taylor and the heat sleeves, Nothing beat being able to check your wires for touching/burning in 2 seconds.
Plus they look really cool
Check them out here! I was in the middle of the install but still, you can get a view of what they look like.

I have MSD wires with "Made for You" OVC looms. I used to run Taylors but after getting some MSD wires I'm sold on them. They seem to be a little better quality wire than the Taylors. But the Taylors work fine too. For peace of mind I think OVC is the way to go with LT's - the OVC setup seems to be made with LT's in mind.
