I think they're the most reliable manuals around. You souldn't see any problems (especially stock). Just the common noise/chatter...

Some people have problems bending shift forks, the 3-4. I personally have blow out fifth gear three times (that's why I lemon lawed my 99), but my 93 is great. Pops out of third every once in a while, and if I jump on it in fourth at about 1500-2500, I get really bad bearing rattle. But what do you expect with a 107K mile beat on transmission?!

When you say bearing rattle, what do you mean? I think mine may be doing this in third. It feels like a small vibration under hard throttle. Not bad, just curious...

Only problem i have is going to sixth gear. I really have to bring up the revs to about 4k at 80 mph before it will even consider letting me shift. Never talk to anybody about so does anybody have any suggestions while im thinking of it?

Sounds like synchros if it is RPM related. Parts - $150 - labor ? we did the work ourselves

Very serious !!

In 98-99-00 I was running 2 championships at 2 different track[Saturday Napierville/Sunday Sanair] i was getting 400-450 runs a year,I have slowed a bit lately 200-250 a year.

One weekend did Friday night Streetraces/Saturday A.M. special/Saturday P.M. regular/Sunday regular=104 runs.

i have the same problem, but its only going to cost 500 for parts and labor, thats new bearings syncros. its good to have friend that is certified to work on vipers. he told me it would take him and afternoon to do.

i think its the input bearing that makes all that noise, becuase its rpm related, if it were the out put shaft i think it would speed related.

It cost me $1200 to get mine rebuilt. It needed 1-2 gear slider, 3-4 gear slider, 5-6 gear slider, 3-4 shift fork upgrade, 5-6 shift fork replace, 5th and reverse gear, and synchros.

Then I replaced the shifter, slave/master-cylinder assembly, and new clutch/pp.

They can get expensive.

Well, fourth gear is a 1:1 ratio, which puts a lot of stress on the driveline. that's why I get the bearing rattle under throttle between 1500-2500 in fourth. I don't know about third though.

A infinitely good upgrade is to put steel shift forks in.

I had a bad 4th gear synchro when I bought my car, but it was covered under warranty.
