Who has had this problem??????

All right, so heres the deal. Yesterday, after driving down to U of I and back, my first long trip with the car, i was driving around town and all of a sudden my car started surging. The revs, while in neutral, were going between 500 and 2000 rpm's and it was also doing this while i was in drive. Granted, i was almost running on empty, but i have been lower. My thinking was that i had some junk in my tank and it was getting sucked into the fuel pump and that was what was causing the problem. So i went to fill her up and after the fill up, no problems yet. So what gives? Do i have bad injectors, is my theory correct, or is something else wrong? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks alot in advance.

well you are probably slowly killing your fuel pump. I would say if you don't want to go through the hassle of pulling your rear end to replace it you might not want to let your car drop below 1/4 of a tank.

Probably surges in pressure from it being low. Most time when it is on E, it is really empty. Don't risk running out. The fuel also cools the pump and it can be damaged by running out.

Thanks for the responses. Not to discredit your responses, because they are probably right, i was just wondering, in the owners manual, it says the car has a 15.5 gallon tank, and when i filled up, i only put in 13.9 gallons. Wouldnt 1.6 gallons of gas in the tank be enough for the pump to pick up? Or not? But yah, your guys are right, i probably shouldnt let it get under a 1/4 tank. Thanks again.
