Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Looking to replace my waterpump and thinking of going the electric route. I did quite a bit of research and my findings are mixed. Some say they will fail more often than a stock, some say they're much better and reliable.
So, who has had an electric waterpump fail on them?
Thomas.

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Really
only 2 years expectancy? WOW, if that's what the manufacture says, I'll definitely go with a stock replacement. I don't want to be replacing my waterpump every 2 years.
Thanks for the info,
Thomas.

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Summit Racing offers an electric water pump for our cars that has a 10,000 hour life expectancy, 4 times that of the Meziere. If it really lasts that long I do not know. The big thing is with the EWP, is it can leave you stranded really easily, I am still iffy if I want to go with one, but probably will, and it probably be the summit product.
Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
My Meziere HD died after 2 weeks. Leaked through weephole. (that was 2 years ago)
I know someone who bought one at the same time and his also died in about 2 weeks but it just stopped as opposed to leaking like mine. (electrical failure)

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
I've never had mine fail because of the water pump. I've had dumb things like the belt broke and whipped around and broke the power wire going to the relay that turned it off.
The big downfall is that if you want to sit in your car with the ignition in the on position(listening to the radio or something) The pump is running and drainging the battery, after 20 minutes or so you need a jump. But this is nice at the track if you want to cool your engine off, just watch your voltage meter so you can start the car again. Like most things it has its advantages and disadvantages.
Oh yeah, I've had mine for about 2 years now, 2-30,000 miles or so.

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
CSI, for the last 5k miles, never failed.
* I did break the fuse holder for it accidentally one day working on the motor, got less then 1 mile down the road and the temp pegged the red. So my error, not the pumps fault.

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
I know people with Meziers who had them failed, noone with CSI unless they did something stupid like take the ears off the CSI pump instead of the housing LOL and then had them fail cuz water got in, mine is been working for 4 years now, know on wood.

If you turn the key backwards (acc. position) to listen to the radio then the pump doesn't run does it?
Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
I've had 2 Mezieres fail on me. Never did get a single one replaced under warranty as I'm really bad about keeping track of receipts. The first one died after 9 months of owning it. The second one was about 15 months after that. I'm closing in on 2 full years w/ my current one. Maybe if I send the two bad ones in, they can combine the parts and send me one good one. One's housing is pretty tore up because I found that you could sometimes get it to work again by hitting it w/ a Ford tool - a la hammer
. Needless to say I hit it one time too many I guess and it's done.

Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Err.....i'm scared of putting in the Meziere now...Do you have to go thru the entire process of taken the housing off and all to replace it or can you just screw one right up?
Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
Sounds to me like CSI is a more reliable choice to go with. Ive been thinking about the swap myself, and after reading about so many mezieres failing and thier weak 2000 hour life expectancy, i know which one i _wont_ be buying. You can get a CSI conversion for your stock pump for $170 on ebay.
Re: Who has had an electric waterpump fail?
The housing has to be removed, and the internals need to be taken out. You then hammer a freeze plug in the back of it (where the cam driven shaft ran inside it), and then bolt on your new elect. pump and wire it.
