whine from rear area ONLY under power.....???

I've got a whine of sorts, its loudest from 40mph - 80mph other speeds its almost not there.

When doing anything but giving the car any power its perfectly quiet.

even enought to not even be noticed on the tach it makes the noise.

but as soon as I let off it goes away... doesnt seem to matter the rpm at all, only that its in gear and the slightest bit of forward adding power.

That's ring and pinion noise. Start saving for a new set.

My Z has been making the same whining noise. I thought it was because I had put Synthetic Lubrication in the rear end w/ additive. So how much does the ring and pinion cost

well I just had 4.10's put in my rear and have about 200miles on them. I trust guy who put them in too as he does alot of work around this area. Mine whine. Esp at 70mph but kinda goes away after that probably b/c of road noise canceling it out.

Mine has had some whine for a year and a half now. They will last as long as they last. <shrug>
