Want to mount my MSD box inside car particularly on the firewall some place. I have pretty much stock interior so it looks pretty cramped under there. Has anyone done this and where did you mount it if so? Pics would be appreciated. Do you think the unit will ever get too hot inside the car? i figure it will be cooler than under the hood. Either way its probably going in the car. Thanks

glove box...but i would put it under the hood. The heat won't hurt it (as long as you don't bolt it to the headers).

 

I mounted mine right next to my CAI kit when I had it.

Had it under the hood mounted to the firewall and went bad after a year and less than 5K. It is not going near the front of the car because i dont want it up there so i say the inside would be ideal for me. Anyone that has done this?

It needs a ventilated place, so don't put it in the glovebox. Most people find a place in the engine compartment.

 

why does it need to be ventilated?

 

right by the fuse box. Pick up the fuel rails OR... Put it under the hood latch.

yeah, put it right next to the fusebox, well behind the fusebox towards the passenger compartment on the shock tower well.

Take out the passenger air bag and make the cover on the dash so that it opens and mount it in there...thats what i plan on doing. Not sure if there will be enough ventilation, but i have seen other people mount theres in compartments in the dash.

 

Yes spend a whole day routing wires there and remove a safety feature on a daily driven car. Dont keep it in the engine compartment where it should be.

Some people like a cleaner engine bay. Ive seen lots of people mount theres under/in the dash. And he doesn't drive his car daily...i do and i dont have airbags. Only time i got in a wreck with a car that had airbags, the wreck wasn't to bad and the airbags burned my gf's neck and my arm.

 

Because MSD says so. The electronics generate heat.

They also specifically state in their instructions to not install it in the glove box.

 

A small electronic fan should take care of any heat generated from the box.
