Where is the Vin location on an LT1

I have an 83 trans am that i'm planning to put an LT1 in. I can't however find the vin for the motor I have. Is there anyone out there that might help.

Do you mean the "engine code"? It should be the 8th character
from the left within the VIN.

A portion of the VIN is stamped on the engine block and on the transmission. Shoebox has a photo showing the location on an LT1:

The VIN derivative is located on the left side of the block above the oilfilter.
