Sending Unit

The Oil pressure sending unit on the lt1's is located on the very top of the engine near the back on the intake. You can't really see it from under the hood, but you have just go to reach back and feel around for it. They are about 3 inches long of black plastic and they break very easy. I broke mine during a tranny swap, but the local Napa had one for like 30 bucks. We had my tranny in before we noticed, but I managed to do it from the ground just by reaching behind the intake. It's a little tricky, but not bad.....

Isn't everything tricky under the hood of an F-body??? T

That’s the best description I can give you but I can pry help more if you give me a specific question....

Since it's by the intake manifold, I'd say you'll be doing it from the top. And yes, you might get your hands dirty doing it, so quit whining and wear some plastic gloves and safety goggles if you're that concerned

You should be oil free if you let it cool down. There should not be any pressure at the sending unit unless the engine is running as the sneding unit gets its feed directly off of the pump.....

if you have any problems like I said, just email me.....

You are likely going to need a special socket to get it off. Auto parts stores sell them.

I have a 93 Z-28. Shoebox, thru your picture noted above I see that a "note" says the oil sending unit is near the oil filter on my 93. Thanks for that note.

Anyway, my oil gauge is erratic. In other words it goes all the up way past 80 PSI then goes to the normal range then in a few moments it goes low, then past 80 again. Its really unreliable. If I change the oil sending unit will that solve my gauge problem too?

Thanks,
Jeff

Yes, it is on the side of the block, just above the oil filter for 1993s.

Yours could be just a connection problem. I would check that at the sensor, first. If that looks good, then replacing the sensor would probably be next.
