Where is my oil going?

For some reason my oil is disappearing

Car runs like a champ, but my oil gradually disappears...not a lot but enough to wonder.

It seems like itll puff a little smoke or smell a little oily at startups or when it gets over 210*

The coolant level has been doin real well for the past 6 or 7 months so I'm thinkin the headgasket hopefully isn't the problem.

If you have no leaks, the "easiest" thing to do is go for the valve stem seals. If they're leaking the motor will burn off the oil. If you've never changed them it might help a little.

You can also use that as an excuse to get some 1.6 RR and springs.

You must be burning it. I thought I read that white smoke means valvetrain (seals) leaking and blue smoke meant bad rings. Can't remember...

It sounds like you are burning it, either its slipping by the rings or the valve seals. Hopefully it is the seals as that is a much easier and cheaper fix.

Please do not start tearing your engine apart based on what the people on here tell you they think the problem is, including me!!!
This board should be used to get idea's, that you then use to trouble shoot to find out what the real problem is. Only after you know should you start work.
Yes, it could be valve stem seals, and it could be rings, but it also could be just a stuck PVC.
If you don't have the expertise to do the trouble shooting have someone you trust do it. You can alway do the work yourself.

How else am I supposed to find out?

But dad is somewhat knowledgeable about engines, but I don't think anymore than me.

The very first thing to do is pull the plugs and analyze them compared to spark plug websites for "what they indicate".

Next do a leak down test to give you an indication of ring condition, head gasket sealing, valve sealing (at the seats, has no bearing on valve oil seals).

Crankcase health could also be tested with a manometer for vacuum level. Tells you about PCV system etc. Not used very often so if you want to read more, google it.

The last 2 things that could contribute to oil consumption is the intake gaskets or valve seals. No real good method to "test" for but rather need to do inspection. Visual inspection with a bore scope through the intake can show if there is a leak at the intake port but not always.

One last FWIW. My 99 P-up from new has always consumed oil. About 1 to 1.5 qts in 6000 miles. I sell and use Amsoil so I can go 6K instead of 3K. Never blows blue smoke and plugs have never indicated oil burning. I have had to do intake gaskets (because of leaking water) twice. Vortec intake gaskets suck. The second time I did head gaskets just for long term insurance. None of which helped with consumption.
