Where to get a hose?

I need a radiator hose or a nice hose to stick in between my y pipe and my floorboard. This screw is starting to dent the metal betcause it's right up to the y pipe. How much and where can I find a radiator hose? What other alternative can I use around the house that won't burn that quickly? Can I just go to an auto store and pick up any type of hose?

If you insist on doing this then the only type of hose that will last any time at all is silicone. NAPA has it in 1/2 or 3/4 with OD being probably 1"-1 1/2". Its actually for AIR tubes but it may work for what you're doing.

Re: Where to get a hose?

I agree the only tube that MAY last is silicone, normal rubbe tube WILL melt, i have tried it. When i was having the same problem, what i did was take the transmission crossmember and shim it down a couple of washers. This lowered the end of the headers and y-pipe just enough so it didnt rattle against the underside. Im sure shimming it like how i did isn't the absolute best of things to do, but it seems to work great on my car! If you need a pic of what im talking about let me know i can get some pics for ya.-Jeff

I wish it was up against the crossmember. It's more against the screw that holds the fuel lines in. This is RIGHT where the header meets the y pipe like 6 inches down. Are silicone tubes expensive?

Re: Where to get a hose?

I've used the silicon smog hose from napa on another car. It was over 2 years ago but i want to say it was something like $12 a foot.

Also, i beleive hazard2k was suggesting you shim the transmission crossmember in order to tilt the headers down and away from the screw. Shimming the crossmember lowers the rear of the transmission changing the tilt of the engine slightly. However, I don't suggest doing it as it will change the angle of the driveshaft and might cause a vibration.

Do you happen to have an energy suspension transmission mount? I THINK they are slightly taller then stock which might be causing your headers to vibrate against that screw.

Take it to the muffler shop and have it fixed and don't put something there to catch on fire and burn your car to the ground.

Re: Where to get a hose?

Yeah I do have an ES tranny mount. Just curious, how will a rubber tube catch on fire and burn my car down? It would have a protective lining on it I don't need a big one, just one to wedge it in there. The screw is actually starting to go inside my y pipe. I just need a little seperator. You guys do know which screw I'm talking about right? It's right by the frame. Would wedging a hose of some sort be safe for that? I have seen people do it. BTW, a lot of muffler shops won't touch my car because it has no cats, and bringing it to a place like F-body central would be pointless. I mean, I can take a crowbar and just move the pipe, it's that easy to move, I just need something to get in between there! I got spacers with my y pipe but they are too thick. Maybe I'll jack it up tomorrow and try to wedge in that metal spacer.

Re: Where to get a hose?

Actually I have an idea. When I got my headers installed, I got the ones with the EGR and AIR fittings. I actually had the EGR and AIR deleted from my PCM from Ion when I met with him personally. Could I get an EGR or AIR block off plate and just stick that hose in between? If I do go that route, do I just take off all the AIR and EGR tubes? AIR check valves? and block that off?

Auctually i have one also, maybe that is why i had a rattle there also. I will try buying a new OEM mount and see if that fixes it without having to lover the crossmemeber a little.

But as i said before, if you lower the transmission crossmember slightly, the whole engine tilts back slightly also, which makes the headers and y-pipe have more clearance between the floor, which is where yours is hitting, as was mine.
