Re: Where do you have your cutout welded
Not welded, band clamped:

Positioned under the rear passenger seat. The electric motor tucks neatly up into the recess. As you can see, no loss of ground clearance.
NICE exhaust note when opened....
I might add that this particular brand, although fitting perfectly to my 3" aluminized hooker pipe actually has a 3 1/2" opening. Very nice outfit for $160.

Re: Where do you have your cutout welded
Hi. The pipe size will still be 3 inches. It is only the cutout opening where the electric cutout (valve) bolts to the Y adapter that is 3.5 inches. His Y adapter fits perfectly on the 3 inch hooker pipes. Once again, I recommend band clamps if you want to do this without a welder. Buy the 3 inch ones if you decide to go this way. They are more obvious because of the width but they seal great on my exhaust. They're polished stainless and almost look like they are vacuum sealed to the joint.
best of luck.
best of luck.
Re: Where do you have your cutout welded
Just remember that you probably want it in a good position that you can lay on the ground and reach. The stock cat location is where I put mine and it worked perfectly. I would say before the cat but after the y-pipe. I don't think you'd gain much more by having two as opposed to one, as long as it is right after the y-pipe.

You know, I ran into the same issue with mine.
I bought a 3" QTP cutout and what I beleive to be a 3" valve.
Same deal, it fit great in my 3" catback, but was .5" smaller than my opening.
I need to go measure that sometime.
EDIT: after looking into it, it turns out that QTP cuts those .35-.5" small so they open better.
I don't see how a circle would hit a round tube of the same size
But at least I know thunderracing sent me exactly what I ordered.
I'm thinking a little radiusing and polishing might help flow a little.
