where can I buy uncoated Mac midlengths at?

(Yes, ive searched)

Every place I look sells them with the HTS or whatever cheap coating on them. Is that the only way they come? The only reason I ask is because I know of a local place that does a good job with coatings. I havent been able to find uncoated ones anywhere. Im still shopping around, its gonna be a while yet before i actually lay down the cash for a set, but i want this to be all planned out when the time comes. Im not sure if i want emission hookups or not yet, so dont worry about that.

I don't know if they carry them anymore, but back in early 2003 i bought mine from Speed Inc for $420 to my door. They have very little rust on them with the coating they came with, mostly on the Y-pipe. Jet Hot does some good work, so i'll probably go with them later on.

thanks, yea im pretty set on Macs. The worst ill end up doing is buying the coated ones and getting them sand blasted and recoated. That or Ill buy a used set (I know ive seen them used in the for sale section uncoated) Im just trying to save a few bucks here and there.

FYI the hts coating is just some cheap paint, it's not really a coating like jet-hot. Most macs are therefore basically uncoated. Hope this helps

All mac's from the Mac factory come with teh HTS coating. Like stated, its just basically a paint. Some vendors can ceramic coat your macs for you if requested.

thats what i was afraid of, ill just get em with the HTS coating and have them re-done then. SteveO, just curious, did you use the stock wire routing, or did you go over the valve covers?

thanks guys.

I used the stock wire routing location on mine. I used some zip ties here and there to keep everything away from the primaries, but there is plenty of room, and no real interference problems.

I used the stock wire routinig location. I also used a few zip ties just to be careful, ande I've had no problems whatsoever. I've had the headers on approximately 10,000 miles so far. My wires are heat resistant Accel Extreme 9000s.

I also used the stock wire routing, and a couple of zip ties. I use the stock wires, and haven't had any problems over the last 7000 miles. I kept the stock heat shields on the boots too. That helps.

Ditto... and being able to change out all 8 plugs in 20-30 minutes is a definite plus.

I'm still having problems fixing that dang leak in the slip tube though. I have a U-clamp on it and it still ticks. I'll probably weld it together this summer (tack weld it into place in the car, pull the header, then complete the weld the rest of the way around). Should drop back in from the top as one piece... which is how i put it in there to start with. Yes i pulled the steering shaft, only takes 5 minutes.

Is that a common problem?

I don't know, haven't heard anyone else saying anything about it. It's not a bad leak, it's barely noticable cause no one else recognizes it until i point it out. But since i have the ear for it, it bothers me. I'm not mad about it or anything, and fixing it probably won't take more than a couple hours.
