Re: E85?

E85 is 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline.

Re: E85?

I think it burns too cool... relative to regular gasoline. That means you wont make as much power or worse.

Re: E85?

more alcohol will cause it to run hotter, IE 105 octane

Octane doesn't increase temperature, it just resists detonation (knock). It's also true that higher octane does not generate more horsepower in itself. What it does is allow you to increase your horsepower via higher compression ratio, super charger, nitrous, heads/cam and retune your engine to take advantage of the higher octane.

Re: E85?

You can't run it, here's why:

well, first, the stoich of E85 is richer then the 14.7:1 of gas, so you will run lean, which means hotter, second, you will be way down on power, third, your entire fuel system will fail, everything needs to be purposely selected to run such a high concentration on alcohol(I.E., all metal needs to be stainless steel, ect.)

Re: E85?

Basically,

E85 sucks and is a bunch of hippie bull ****.

It might be neat for your next "green" vehicle, and is probably better than electric cars, but really, it sucks for any sort of performance. To maximize the performance for it, you need all new fuel tank/pump/lines/injector/pcm.

On the plus side, the power you loose from it not making as much energy per givin amount in comparison to gasoline, could likely be made up for since you could crank the compression ( Or boost on a FI motor ) up.
