When would it be ok to port and descreen the MAF?
When would it be ok to port and descreen the MAF?
I bought this 355 motor with everything on it. It came with a ported, descreened MAF. I have not had any problems with it, however, I know not much about these engines. I do know that the computer has been programmed by pcmforless. I was wondering if maybe this had been put into consideration by pcmforless.. I'm wondering because I want to put a stock MAF back in there from what I have read about it.

When you have access to a dyno and can program the PCM according to data log results.
Without someone telling you pcmforless considered the altered MAF, there is no way to know. Even if they did, they just made their best guess. Not their fault, but that is just the way it is with an altered MAF.

I think that the stock maf can handle up to 450 rwhp or something like that...i know that it is alot. I desceened mine but i wish that i hadn't because i just keeps crap from going into your engine if something were to fall off or something.
Re: When would it be ok to port and descreen the MAF?
I also had pcmforless tuning for a ported/descreened MAF, then went to the autoparts store and swapped for a reburbished stock MAF unit (~$135). I haven't put the programming back to stock specs yet -- having trouble with the ALDL -- but the car runs noticeably smoother at idle. Actually, at idle, my block learns are much closer to 128 now, and at less of a split (again, this is simply referring to idle -- haven't run datalogging for other fuel cells)...
You should be 'ok' to swap back to stock, but be aware that this might affect your fuel trim. Probably best to reprogram.
