Should i take the mechanical pump gear out or just let it spin freely? I have a feeling that i should leave it in but just thought i should ask.

I removed mine, and installed a freeze plug in the cover. One less seal that can pop a leak on a motor nutorious for oil leaks.

I think i am going to have to let it spin freely because i have the engine completed and ready to slide back in. I dont want to have to go through all the trouble to take it back out. The main reason i am asking this is, with the gear spinning freely, is there any chance of it hitting anything or getting cought in anything. I just want to prevent any disasters from happening before they do. Let me know.
