When does the AC compressor engauge?
About a month ago, my waterpump went out and because of a strange coincidence, my AC compressor decides to go up in smoke, literaly, right after fixing my waterpump. Luckily, the car is still driveable when the AC is turned off but its starting to get cold out. In what posisitions of the switch does the compressor engauge? After driving today in the rain and having my windows fog up, I turned on my defroster but about a minute after doing that, I was sitting at a stop light and the idle became really really rough so I turned off the defroster and turned off my car and started it back up and it seemed fine. Anyone have a clue?

Re: When does the AC compressor engauge?
Well I didnt know that it would periodically kick on. I should of disconnected the wire a LONG time ago. My compressor went up in smoke and leaked about all the oil out, not to mention probably almost caught on fire. It hasnt posed any problems lately but it sure scared me today when my car started idling as rough as it did today. It really sucks being 500 miles from home with no tools and at college. I will have to wait until Thanksgiving to fix it myself.

I appreciate the offer. I unplugged the wire today at the compressor. I am assuming it is the plug that has just two wires on it? I went though the AC switch and didn't hear it click on. Thanks for the help!
