When adjusting hydro rockers...

Do you wait for the lifter to unload, and THEN adjust for 0 lash? It seems as though if I crank the starter, the lifters get loaded w/ oil and the pushrods have no vertical play. However, if I keep screwin' w/ 'em, or cranking the crank a bunch of times manually, the lifters start to bleed off, and now I have excessive vertical play. What's the best way to do it? Should loosen ALL the rockers, then crank the starter to load up the lifters, THEN put them back 1 by 1? I can see that as the only way the lifters won't bleed off on all of them while I'm doing each one.

They are Comp Pro Mag 1.6's and 875-16 (Comp R) lifters on a 7/16" stud.

Once you loosen the rocker-arm, the internal spring in the lifter pushes the hydraulic piston back up to the lock-ring (fully extended). That spring then has enough tension to hold the piston up while you’ll doing the O-lash adjustment.

So, once the rocker is loosened, you don't have to worry about the lifter bleeding down giving an incorrect adjustment, b/c it doesn't come into play until you tighten it? That was throwing me off, b/c it was like, they'll always get loose and you won't know how tight to make 'em. But, if you are strictly on the lock ring, then there shouldn't be any concern, correct? Just get 0 lash and set the load?

Like The Engineer said, the internal spring holds them up. Once you properly set the lash and preload, move on to the next one. Don't go back and play with it, unless you are going to completely loosen it up and start over.
