Wheel Question?
Wheel Question?
I have a question about the rims on my car. I have some KMC Alum. rims. And I stored my car at my friend place this winter, and when I looked at it about 2 months ago, the rear tires where flat. So, I filled the tires up, and about a week they were flat again. Can the tires go flat do to temp variations? The temps have gone up and down here in MN as of late. And I've heard that alum. rims tend to do this. But, in the summer the tire held their pressure without a problem. I don't think I had to fill them once over the summer. It could be a nail, but that means both rear tires got one, and the fronts didn't, which would be weird. So, what do you guys think? Thanks.
Temperature changes can not account for flat tires. A 100degF drop in temperature would reduce the tire pressure by less than 20%. When the temperature returned to "normal" so would the tire pressure.
And, aluminum wheels do not inherently "bleed".... I recently took my four stock 94 Formula "pinwheels" out of a storage bin where they had been for over 5 years and they all still had pressure in them.
Check for nails, or faulty rims.

You could calculate the pressure difference by the orig. pressure, volume and temperature difference but that would be overkill - maybe somebody doesn't like you and placed some nails..... it's very unlikely that you damage two tires by nails under normal circumstances.... just check to be sure
Also, the car has been sitting in the same spot since early September. Would this make a difference? I don't know if it would be the rims, because I've had them on the car since 00' and haven't had a problem. I know it's not fool play because the car is in storage unit, only I can get into. It's just that it's not heated. I'm going to get it out of storage tomorrow, so I'll check for nails then. Thanks.
i'm sure it's just a rim leak. who ever put the tires on the rims must not have got the sealed very well.
just take them in and have them reseal the rim, they just clean it, run a bead of silicon around and rebead the tire on.
rim leaks are extremely popular for cars that sit, temp changes help it along.
