What's up with this?

I installed 2 LED's on my fan switch. The kind with built in resistors. I hooked the neg. leads to each of the center terminals of the switch and the pos. to the lighter pos. With the Ignition ON, they work like they are supposed to. With the Ignition OFF, they are both lit. I'm puzzled on this one. Any ideas?

as long as the fans are running, theyre supposed to stay on. even with the ignition off.

edit:
if this is something you dont want, then yeah, change your positive power source. the lighter pos. stays on all the time. change it to the power source coming into your rear defroster switch. it goes on and off with the ignition.

Yeah but this is with a cold engine and no reason for the fans to be on. Once I start it everythings normal.

Are you OBD-I? Why don't people put info about their car in the post!

The diagram on my site shows that you need diodes if the LEDs don't work right with the key off. You can also use a switched power source and it will keep them off.

BTW, TTT after 17 minutes is a no no.

so are you saying the lights come on without the fans on? are you turning the ignition on and havent started the car and they are coming on? or are you saying that the lights are coming on when you first turn your car on and the engine is cool? if the answer is the latter, then are you running your a/c? cause your fans usually kick on with the a/c on. elaborate more if you would.

OK sorry about that. I have a 94 OBD1. I somehow missed that diagram and referred to the wrong one. I shall get some diodes and solder them in, Thanks. To answer the question from slverbullet, They are on with the key out of the ignition. They work right when the key is in run and the engine is running.

*edit* I installed the diodes per your diagram and all is well. Thanks alot. Shoebox, I really appreciate your contributions to our higher learning. You and many others here are a big help. thanks.
