heads

Okay I have a 69' camaro, with a 350 cubic inch engine, that was produce in 78' -79'. Took off the valve covers one day, and noticed that there is a big fat LT1 printed on them. Are these actually LT1 heads and if they are did they make them in 78 or 79.

Should be the first LT-1 (note the dash, not used in modern version). Lt-1s and LT1s don't have swapable heads. Not sure if they used the orginal LT-1s in Camaros, they were mostly a Chevelle thing. Try asking in the classic section.

Iknow that they used to produce a SBC named the LT1 in corvettes, but I believe that was in the 60s? Not sure. But they definately aren't going to be like today's LT1 heads. Today's LT1 heads are reverse cooled. maybe just a coincidence that they have LT1 stamped on them.

The original LT-1's were definitely in Camaro's and Vette's. Never heard of one in a Chevelle. !970 and '71. Yenco put some in Nova's.

They weren't made in '78 or '79, but someone could have installed them. They had big valves and flowed better than '78 smog heads.

I was told by the previous owner of this car, that the engine came from a vette. If they are off the vette would they be original?

Check the part number and what are the last 3 digits of it?
They should be a Fuelie head, like a 462 or 461 if I remember right.

If the motor did come from a Vette it was a 1970 Vette, which had the orginal LT-1. That was a 370bhp motor. They also installed them in Camaros at 360bhp and Yenko put some in some Novas that year too.

Part Number

The heads have several numbers on them when I took the valve covers off here they are. The passenger side head has these numbers on them/ LT 8927185 and B19-9. The drivers side head reads/ LT 8927185 and B20-9. Both heads also have GM 11, on them. How can I get info on these heads. Thanks

going by the date codes, The heads are from 1969. The casting number has to be wrong though. Are you sure the first digit is 8 and not a 3. I know sometimes they can be hard to read. Casting number 3927185 is a good number and was used from the yrs of 1968 to 1976. It was used on 307, 327, and 350 and was a standard production head. Standard as Not high performance.
