Whats under the plate on the bottom of the intake?

I was just wondering what is under here and weither it opens up to the inside of the intake. Is there a gasket there? Just don't want to mess with it till I know. Thanks.....

There is no gasket so take it off if you want. It does not go to the interior of the manifold. There really isn't much to see except the bottom of the manifold. I removed mine to clean more thoroughly.

You should be able to just remove it. I dont think there are any gaskets. I believe that's an oil deflector? But I'm not positive.

I agree. Just remove it and you will be able to clean the bottom of the intake very good. You'll see sludge build up on the bottom.

The best way is, fine a machine shop and get it clean by a hot tank. I did mine for $25 got it back in 4 hours looking brand new. If you want to do it yourself, us spary carb cleaner/ intake cleaner and and water. After it's cleaned up just air dry it before you install it back into the car.
