what's the throttle body coolent plate for?

i'm using a bbk throttle body on my lt1, and i want to know what that plate that bolts to the bottom of the TB is for. it has one or 2 coolent inlet/outlets on it. is it part of that system that warms the throttle body? can i jsut put a plate there instead? is there any sensors that are there? i can't remember, but i think there is. the rteason i ask, is that my new bbk was stolen off my new motor sometime last week. if anyone can get me the part #'s for that plate and /or sensors, i'd really appreciate it... thanks

your idle air control valve sits down there.

If you are talking about THIS bottom plate, it allows radiator fluid to heat up the thottle body, hence making the air warmer... Its for emissions... To warm up the engine quicker.....

You can bypass it by connecting the two lines together... 3/8 barbed fitting and 2 hose clamps for the 93-94 model 95-97 can go directly to the other side...

Everything I have ever read over the past 10 years indicates the coolant lines were added to prevent throttle body icing in cold weather, not for emissions.

The line from the back of the heads goes to the passenger side connection on the TB coolant plate on the 95-97's. It connects directly to the radiator on the 93/94's.

Exactly. I've lived in New England my whole life, and have never had ANY of my LT1s throttle bodies ice up due the "coolant bypass mod". Just do it!

Is there a plug in that plugs into the coolant plate? If not why not make a piece of metal to block it off? save a lil room, and if you switch throttle bodys often it would make things simple maby. Just a suggestion.

You can't eliminate the lower coolant plate. It also holds the IAC motor, and some of the IAC passages.

let me ask this while we are talking about it, is there any adjustment that i need for the IAC??? i'll be needing to order a new one, and i've never replaced them before... is there anything that i need to know? will the engine start without it? the reason i ask is that i'm on a tight deadline, and i need to have her started by the middle of the day saturday....
