I am pretty sure I remember seeing somthing way back where someone hit a high 9's or low 10's. Those engines had to be on the razors edge of destruction. I will look for the post.

A lot of that is having a car thats light and can hook hard, I know both buys that had/held the LS1 stock short block records, Mike went 9.6s in his 98 Z28, car only ran 117 on motor, wasnt any thing crazy, just had a really good suspension, was light and could hook on a big shot of gas. The h/c set up on his car was circa 2001 MTI as it came off another friend of mines car. Dan had it next with a 9.6, his car also wasnt any thing great on motor, heads were ok, decent cam, but it was gutted worse than a theft recovery and could hook stupid. The thing is both cars far as on motor went, werent the pincacle of h/c set ups, nothing like whats out on the LS1s now. Some thing like an LE3 on gas in a very light car, with a well tunned and working suspenson would do the trick. Both Dan and Mikes car ran TH350 with 12 bolts. A lot of keeping the motor together for both those cars was the amount of tunning that went in to them, both buys are also Techs.
