Whats the stock rev limiter 4200?

I just topped out a 42-4300, is that normal? Seems kinda low, it didn't even hit red line! Whats the highest that I can safely set it at?

I was just searching around and noticed that a lot of posts are saying 5885. Why when I floor it to hit the rev limiter is it stopping at 4300? The reason that I did it, before anyone asks, is because today I was gettin on her pretty hard, just because I usually don't and I hit the stock rev limiter in 1st 2nd and 3rd. And it was topping at 4200! WTF is up with that?

By-the way, the car runs perfect...I know its a rev limiter.

I just can't believe it. My car is so unbelievably fast compared to other peeps cars in my area, friends and stuff. If I had an extra 1000rpm to play with, then it would be no sweat. This sucks! How do you think it got like this?

Some people equate optispark or coil problems to the same feel as hitting the rev limiter.

You remeber the opti incident when I tried to wash my motor. Thats over with, so the opti is 2 months old. And coil was replaced before the opti to try and rule it out. All plugs wires, coil, ignition module, opti...Its all new. The engine runs great, just feels like a rev limiter at 4300ish.

ouch...that hurts, but it is so true

The 93 - 6 banger has just been sitting for about 4 months now. I took her out on a "run" last night and it was like driving a Honda!

Anyway, do you think that I should put this in the Computer Diagnostic section?

I just thought of something. Could it be valve float on my high high mileage LT1? 158,000 miles....Whatcha think?

valve float feels just like the ecm cutting out, so thats a possibility too.

This is how I would think to check for this. OK, to check fuel pump, filter and ecm at the same time, I would assume if I hooked a fuel pressure gauge up to the system, then took it to rev limit or cut off or valve floatage. Then if I'm getting valve float, I should read normal fuel pressure still right. If I'm getting ecm cut off or a bad fuel pump then the fuel pressure would flick up and down real far right. I don't know it just seems like this would work. Let me know what you all think! Thanks.......

The factory PCM settings for the rev limiter in the M6 are:

1st Gear: 5,886rpm
2-6th Gear: 5,805rpm

The PCM cuts the injectors off to limit rpm, not the fuel pump. You aren't going to see anything different in the fuel pressure whther its valve float or a PCM-based limiter.

Are you saying you have been driving this car for a while, and you never took it to 4,200rpm before?
