What's so wrong with the flowmaster catback?
There are a lot of F-body's around where I live, and they even have their own club. And I've been out with them and one guy has a flowmaster cat back, everything else stock and I think it sounds fine. It is loud but not too loud like the loudmouth's... and I didn't notice it to be that raspy sounding, it was just a nice deep rumble. So my question is, what do you guys have against them?
Nothing.
I've heard many systems on this motor and none of them quite matched the "bass" of the Flowmaster muffler. Just a pure deep classic muscle car rumble.
The big reasons why people hate on them so much now is that they don't flow as well as most other aftermarket mufflers/systems (especially once your car starts making big power), have a really irratating drone inside the car, and because of the fact that so many have them. And they only get "raspy" if you run no cat (s) while using the standard Y-pipe set-up. But just about any other single exhaust gets raspy too without cats as it is.
I personally love the tone of the Flowmaster exhaust on the LT1...

I dont have the catback system but i do have a flowmaster muffler with no cat and yes that drone does get very annoying but i love the way it sounds at an idle and i nothing sounds better when i pin the throttle wide open although mine is very loud i have been stopped for it many times but its part off the price i pay for drivin what i drive
I was running the cat back on my 1993 Z28 and I liked it alot. I didn't run a cat and it sounded fine to me. I would recommend it to anyone that was looking for a cat back system. I'm going to run true dualls for my next car
I'm with Red and most of the guys. I have that Catback system now for going on 7 years and I love um. I'm sure there are others better but I like mine just fine. I also don't have any cats in my car. No probs with that either.
im gonna go with the majority and say my flowmaster cat back sounds awesome. i like the way it has the more "muscly" sound. not the wimpy exhaust note that u cant hear tilll about 3k or the ones that r so loud u wanna look for a hay fork or a parachute hangin off tha back, but just a deep "carb days" rumble.
