Arrow Whats this noise when its shifts?

When I floor it and my car shifts from 1st to 2nd and occasionally 2nd to 3rd, it makes a short of squeek noise. Almost as if you slam a pop can on the ground when its closed and all the pressure is released.

Sounds to me like your breaking your tires loose, explain the noise a little better. When i had my 93 a4 it would chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift and on soft pavement it would do it on the 2-3 shift.

could be a bad/weakened tranny mount/torque arm mount? i had my tranny mount go, but it was more of a pop on the shifts....does it do it only when it shifts? or does it do it sometimes when you accelerate hard from a stop and the weight transfers?

Well I replaced the tranny mount not too long ago. No clunk when I gun it. The noise has been happening since I got the car last October. If it was going to go out would it have done it by now?

is it just at wot? are you sure its not just the tires chirping? Does it bounce off the rev limiter at wot(that is usually a sure sign that its slipping)

Yes just at WOT. Never any other time. Pretty sure its not the tires, its a little different sound than that. They are very bald too so it might make em chirp a little different, but pretty sure thats not it. It shifts a little hard, but not too bad and doesnt bounce of the limiter either.

Thanks for the help. I sure hope that thing doesn't break. I DAMN sure can't afford to fix it right now. Thanks again. Atleast I have a little piece of mind.

I can almost garuntee it's your serpintine belt.. yeah it may not look worn.. but I had the same problem... I cleaned off the belt (wiped it down) then I used rubbing alcohol on the pylley surfaces with atooth brush... worked like a charm and it never did it again..... If it's a high pitch squeal then that's what it is... just give her a good cleaning and she should be good to go!

I can almost garuntee it's your serpintine belt.. yeah it may not look worn.. but I had the same problem.. the belt can't grip enoough during the shift for some reason so it drags on a pulley causing the squeal I don't know which one so I cleaned them all... I cleaned off the belt (wiped it down) then I used rubbing alcohol on the pulley surfaces with a tooth brush to get in all of the crevaces...then I wiped them all down again with a towel worked like a charm and it never did it again..... If it's a high pitch squeal then that's what it is... just give her a good cleaning and she should be good to go!

It's your belt. My does it bad now that I've installed a rebuilt A4 and Vigilante TC. I've read something about sanding some of the pulleys to roughen them up. I have a brand new belt. It could also be the tensioner is getting weak.

Damn, everytime I read this I have to correct my typing!
