What's next?

Okay so I recently purchased a 95 z28 with an automatic trans. The car has long tubes and a full exhaust. A shift kit and a cai. I have done other f bodies in the past, but never owned an LT1.

What would be your next mod? I have 74k on the engine and trans so a rebuild is not going to happen for a while.

I'm not going for an all out drag setup. Just something fun on the street that I could take to the track here or there over the summer. I was thinking of maybe a converter and some gears. Let me know what you think.

Gears and a converter are a great way to wake the car up. That's where I would start for sure.

Re: What's next?

converter and 1.6 roller rockers. If the car has 3.42 gears I would skip upgrading to 3.73. The rockers are not hard to change. You just need the springs from a hot cam kit. They are cheap enough and can be found online. When I had an auto car I did headers, exhaust, cat delete, rockers, asp pulley and nitrous. Car was plenty fast. Great/fun daily driver.

Re: What's next?

The A4 cars have either the 2.73 (GU2) gears or the 3.23 (GU5) from the factory. 3.42 (GU6) gears were only used with the M6 for 94-02.

Re: What's next?

Thanks for the codes I will be sure to check my rpo code to see what's in there. I was pretty sure it was not 3.42 as that's wha my 2000 T had in the rear end stock. I figure some 3.73 and a rear end girdle would be a good weekend project.

Re: What's next?

When had my 1.6 rr installed & a tune I picked up around 2 mph I thought it would be much faster
the stall makes a nice smoke show. lol fun !!
gears , stall , 1.6rr with the support mods to go with it. ( DO NOT ) waste your money on the pulleys
the only give you 1 hp or so not worth the money and time. but they do look nice

Re: What's next?

Thank you for the input Parker. I see roller rockers are a common mod on lt1s. I have had f bodies before just never an lt1. I'll probably look into a stall and gears. I'm thinking I would like to do heads and cam down the road so I probably will not to roller rockers until I gather up a cam and the rest of the valve train.

Re: What's next?

1.6 R.R.s and perhaps beehive springs would a fairly easy install and you will definetly notice the improved driveability and improved power over a wider RPM range without worrying about the emission police
and be very cost effective.
