What's an M29 tranny?
What's an M29 tranny?
I'm looking at buying a '93 Formula, and it says it has a 6spd M29 tranny, and all it says it it has a low first gear.
I've never heard of this before. Is it an entirely new tranny the guy put on the car, or is it just a modified T-56? Is it good? Can someone gimme a lil info.

Re: What's an M29 tranny?
Its supposedly the best T56 they put in our cars. In 93 you either got the M28 or M29, depending on which rear end you got i believe.
Anyway it does have a lower first gear, and maybe a different ratio for 6th? not sure.
I bought one when i blew 2nd gear out of my car, no complaints. Not that ive ever had any traction in first gear

Re: What's an M29 tranny?
6th gear on the 93 M6 was .62 instead of .5

Re: What's an M29 tranny?
Besides the different 1st an 6th gear ratio's there are also power diferences as well. The m29 had a power rating of holding 400ft/tq and the m28 was said to only hold 350ft/tq. THe M29 came with Z28's with a 3.23 rear end and the m28 came with Z's with a 2.73 rear gear.
Re: What's an M29 tranny?
M28 M29 94+
3.36 2.97 2.66 1st gear
2.07 2.07 1.78 2nd gear
1.35 1.43 1.30 3rd gear
1.00 1.00 1.00 4th gear
0.80 0.80 0.74 5th gear
0.62 0.62 0.50 6th gear
M28 came in the 93's with the 2.73 rear gear
M29 came in the 93's with the 3.23 rear gear
This is part of the reason that you don't necessaraly need to put steeper gears in a 93

Re: What's an M29 tranny?
i dont mean to hijack the thread but ive gotta question. so what years 93-98 did they use which tranny? i know they used the t-56, but was that the only one offered besides the one you guys are talkin about in the 93s?
also what is the stock gears for the years as well? for z28s im referring mostly. thanks =)

Re: What's an M29 tranny?
93 was the only year these tranny's were offered. I personally like the 94+ transmissions better, because of the taller 6th and the gear ratios are more evenly spaced. I used to run 4.10s in my car but stepped down to 3.73's because traction wasn't existint. When i had 4.10's in my car the thing sucked on the highway too, I was getting 8mpg city, 13 highway with them. Stock gears were 3.23 or 2.73 for 93 m6's, everthing after 93 came with 3.42s.
