i always thought that an ls1 sounded like a lt1 with a giant 3" tampon shoved up the tailpipes.

LT1s sound a lot better than LS1s unless the LS1 car has major work.

LT1 is louder, iron block. LS1 has an aluminum block.

How is aluminium a better dampening material than cast iron, at least when it comes to the sounds of combustion? F1 engines are made of aluminium, so are Top Fuel engines, they all are about 10 times louder than any LT1 on the planet.

Lt1 is much louder hence the firing order...but the ls1 is far faster

why is the firing order different due to car loudness? The reason GM switched firing order in the LS1 was for a smoother idle. All GM V8s had a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 until the ls1 (1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3). Also I disagree about the LS1 being far faster. It is faster but I wouldn't say far faster.

i agree lt1's are far louder than ls1's and i think have a better sound to em. with my cutout open the car gets the stares over the newer ls1's with a catback and those crappy mustangs.

Here is an example. I have a 1997 Camaro Z28 (LT1) and my good friend/coworker has a 2000 Trans Am WS6 (LS1). We both have stock exhaust manifolds, stock cats. We both have the same exhaust setup. Where the DS meets the ujoint we both have Dynomax Mufflers with a turndown, exact same spots, exact some muffler. My LT1 is ALOT louder then his.

Dan is right, I have the same experience LT1/LS1 cutout/cutout and the LT1 is much louder especially at WOT.
