Whats the extra cam lobe for?

Just thinking of something I noticed the other day, there is an extra cam lobe on the LT1 cams. Its where a mechanical fuel pump would drive from. So I wonder what is the deal with that? Is it just a mass production thing?

If it is between the front journal and the first lifter lobe, it is for driving a mechanical fuel pump rod.

I'm sure their billets come that way and they can make any cam they want out of it. Easier to leave it alone than to retool, I guess.
