Whats the difference between an impalla KM and a Camaro KM?

My LT4 KM came in the mail today and when i removed my old KM it had this part# 16188309 which is a Impalla SS KM. What is the difference between that and a regular LT1 KM?

I've never had any sputtering problem with the LT4 KM in my OBD-I computer. I don't see any quantifiable comparison results in that thread. The guy disagrees with others on the viability of the LT4 KM, but it seems to be his opinion just like mine and anyone else's. Whether it is meant for 1 or 2 knock sensors (or whether that is even a factor) is not the issue to me, as long as it provides the results desired. Over the years, it seems the LT4KM helps some people and not others. I'm sure individual setup variables have a lot to do with it.

To the OP, I don't know what the real spec differences are.

Yeah i thought i would throw it out there to the community they have different part numbers so i figured there might be some difference. Also i had sporadic and crazy knock all over with that KM. After installing the LT4 KM nothing if i had an original LT1 KM i would have tried that just too see if it cleared up some of my knock.

Re: Whats the difference between an impalla KM and a Camaro KM?

The difference between the two is the frequency of the knock they are listening for. An Impala LT1 has iron heads and knocks at a different frequency than the aluminum headed LT1's. LT4's had roller rockers from the factory and knocked at a different frequency still. They are designed to "hear" when the particular engine they were installed on was knocking and are not interchangable. Sure, they still fit but that explains everyones phantom timing retard problems.

FWIW the original 1995 Camaro LT1 KM# is 16177700. My LT4 KM from Jason Cromer is 16214681 (Delco# 216067)
