What's better, LTCC or Delteq

I have been looking between the two and I still don't know. I like the Ltcc because it has rev limiter and a boost retarding feature as well. But I don't want the clutter of eight coils. Thats were I like the Delteq better. Which is better. What's the pro and cons of each? How does the rev limiter and boost retard feature work? I need your guys input on this! Thanks.....John.

I just installed the delteq system on my car yesterday and it works great. The install was fairly simple and straightforward. The results were wonderful, there is no more hesitation or miss and it feels so much stronger. I would highly recommend this system to anyone who is having or has had trouble with their cap/rotor on their opti. Be aware that the delteq still relies on the optical pickup of the opti. Thankfully, i just replaced my entire opti 4 months ago and just the cap and rotor went bad, so the delteq worked just fine. I would go with the delteq system because of ease of installation, great customer service and everything you need is included in their kit as opposed to having to rig your own setup wit the LTCC. Just my .02 Goodluck!!!

I installed a delteq too and its a great system. I got the radiator mount and I think that the plug wire routing is much simpler than opti. The car pulls harder throughout the rpm band. The only bad thing is the car starts about a half rotation later than it does with the opti. I think hands down this is the best ignition system around. A little pricey though.

You can add the Boost Retard and Rev Limiter to the Delteq setup, but it's another $300 more; it requires either a MSD or Mallory DIS system.

Personally I went with the Delteq Setup this past week; I did a custom on the intake manifold mount Vs either of the other 2; makes for even plug wire lengths, and a nice location.

As for which is better... Honestly, I couldn't tell ya, but I've a LOT of good things about the Delteq setup. Well find out more this weekend and how mine works.

Do you have pics of your custom setup? I would love to see it. I left my coilpacks on the valve cover but I routed mine directly to them as opposed to the stock locations. Since I needed the car running I just bundled the excess wires but within a week I hope to shorten the wires and have it custom fit and cleaner looking.

Its actually not custom. Its just the standard radiator mount package offered by Elite Spark Plugs (Delteq). They supply all the hardware and the mount and it bolts to the bottom of the radiator. It uses original size plug wires and original wire mounts. You don't have to run them behind the power steering pump which saves a lot of scratched knuckles.

if you wanted to pull the valvecovers for whatever reason, and watch the car run (eg. valve lash with motor running) wouldnt it be a PITA with the delteq mounted on the valve covers?

The LTCC doesn't have to result in "clutter". I run 8 LS1-style coils (not an LTCC, but something not too different), and I don't feel there's a problem with clutter.... Mounting them behind the bottom of the radiator works fine, and keeps them out of sight.

If you think about it.... if 4 waste-spark coils are better than one stock coil, how good are 8 coils?

with thousands of wasted sparks per second, at 45k volts each, i'd think the 8 coils use considerably less energy than 4 (by giving no wasted sparks) and should give better fuel economy, but ihave no idea how much charge actually flows through to the spark plugs, so cant calculate.

Here's my view of it:
LTCC advantages:
1) All spark plugs have standard polarity voltage on them
2) No waste-spark
3) Rev-limiter
4) Extended rpm range - 24000 rpm vs Delteq 12000 rpm
(but, I can't even get to 12000)

Delteq advantages:
1) Hermetically sealed unit - no moisture intrusion (this is a big plus in my book)
2) Easier to install or find room for


As far as waste-spark technology, the LT5 factory ignition uses it to 7200 rpm.

Waste-spark???Does anyone actually care about this? Who cares if it's sending spark to two cylinders at once. And since the factory PCM fuel tables stop at like 7200 RPM, 12k is generous for a operating celing. The OEM PCM also has a rev limiter in it so I don't see why that's any real advantage either. Also I would rather rev limit an engine by killing fuel over spark any day.

The only real advantage to the LTCC (if you need it) is the boost retard. The Delteq would require an expensive MSD to do this.

I went with the Delteq for only one reason. IT LOOKS FACTORY! I didn't want a erector set of crap on my valve covers and extra wires to run the coils. IMHO it just looks like crap. You can't even see my radiator mount Delteq setup. If you need the Boost retard and don't mind the mess, get the LTCC Otherwise go Delteq.

i went with the delteq as well, no complaints at all its been in the car almost a year. car runs smooth and strong be nice if they ever figure out that stage 2 system ive heard rumors of that doesnt even use the optical sensor in the opti, then i can finally take that opti-crap out.

Another vote for the LTCC. If your lookng for a sealed LTCC just ask bob to "pot it" for you he will then por in the plastic goo you find in other electronic devices. (it's also used for vibration).

I don't have an LTCC, but if you pot it, can you still adjust the rev-limit and such and view the diagnostic LED?
