Question Whats the Best Muffler to use if you don't have cats that will sound good!

Hi Guys!

I have a 1997 Z28 and I have a Flowmaster on it and I hate it because it is so Raspy and Cracks to much.

I need something a little louder than stock but sounds good without all that Raspy or Cracking noise. In other words I don't like glass packs!

KEEP in mind I don't have cats which will make a difference on the way a muffler sounds.

I still have stock exhaust manifolds.

Thanks Lee!

I have the same car, and I asked the same question on this forum. Most of the guys who replied (not many of them) told me to go with the Hooker Aero Chamber. I think I am gonna give that a try, it costs like $75. I will let you know about the sound when I put it in.

I had an xr1 that was actually very quiet.. 'course it was w/ long tubes. I actually miss it. heh

'compared to my 3" true duals that dump before the axle.

Try the Hooker aerochamber muffler or cat-back as it is supposed to sound very good without cats.

Hooker Aerochamber all the way! Nothing sounds better, just deep throaty muscle.

I have a 96 Z28 SS and replaced my SLP muffler with a flowmaster (the eternal quest for more power).

1) I did not pick up any additional power, at least none were noticeable.
2) the SLP muffler was both smoother and better sounding.

The SLP was like a quality trumpet, wheras the Flowmaster is like a tin can with holes in it.

I would always get good comments from the SLP. I never get a peep of complement from the Flowmaster. The SLP had an excellent rumble, smooth, good bass sound, little or no cracking and popping.

Ask other SS owners.
