What are you EATON?
What are you EATON?
I almost forgot to post this....
Recently I had my rear end rebuilt with an EAton Posi...and I must say this was by far the best thing that I've ever done to my car. The Eaton Performance differential is defenantly worth it!
You know how hte Z's like to Turn sideways on you and slide in the rain? No more...I can't even get the car to do that without trying. After I had the EAton dropped in I tested it out thoroughly. I stagged the car up and it went right into it. Laid down perfect Parallel stripes. No more one wheel hopping Auburn magic. I took the car on curves and she stuck to them like she didn't want to let go. When you take off hard on the Accelerator no longer do you have to look at the tail kicking out. The vertical blues is greatly reduced. Everything checked out cool in dry weather...but I brought this thing for the rain....and I can't express how great this unit is. I've slide around corners....spun out out on peoples lawns....did a 360 on the highway making a U turn. Crashed into a curb...and all thanks to the Craptacular stocker. With the Eaton driving in the rain felt normal almost..no more crotch grabbing while you pray the car won't slide out in a puddle. The Eaton wouldn't let loose. I took off hard and while I could feel one wheel spinning in the water the otehr one caught right on and propelled me forward. Didn't turn side ways..or prepare to do a 180 it stayed straight. As I got more aggressive with the car in the rain And the wheel slipped the other one didn't allow the spinning to take over. It held it's position and kept guiding the car in the direction YOU wanted it to be in. Turning in the rain is just the same. Less kickout! The car will slide a bit but then catch right on. If your looking to upgrade your rear or are rebuilding yours and you need a new Differential Deffinantly go with the Eaton...It's like a Whole new ride entirely!

ill add another for the eatons. the zexel torsion posi is pretty nice too. but you have got to love the carbon fiber in the eaton. they feel amazing in comparison to the auburn. When i redid my 10 bolt the eaton was less expensive than the auburn too, and they are rebuildable.
Now the question is, Strange 12 bolt, or SLP 12 bolt??
Now the question is, Strange 12 bolt, or SLP 12 bolt??
How much better is the eaton compared to the zexel torsen slp TO? That unit is only $100. I'm gonna be getting a new unit soon because i think mine is going bad. How reliable are each of these? And is the extra money for the eaton worth it?
for the money you really cant beat the torsen. it performs pretty close to the eaton, so if you are in a pinch with money, swing that direction. If you want the best though, I would recomend the eaton
good to here i just got a deal on a new eaton posi for 300 shipped.im also doing strange 373 gears,ta cover, rateck complete isntall kit and a crush collar.i figure i might as well rebuild the stock 10 bolt for under a grand then get a 12 bolt for over 2 grand that i dont have.
you you are going to be putting any major strain on the rear end, i would go the 12 bolt route. Im rebuilding my car now to a 3838 stroke then dumping a 100 wet shot on that. Theres no way im going to let the 10 bolt touch that. im going to put the current rear end in my dads 97RS. you might want to get a solid pinion sleve to help the rear end strength
drew are u refering to my post??Ratech also manufacturs solid pinion bearing spacers, or "crush collars." These are excellent for cars that "shock" their rear ends extremely hard during launching, which is common with manual transmissions. The solid pinion spacer will allow your rear end setup to remain constant after repeated hard launches. (Because this piece is setup slightly different than a standard crush collar, please ensure that your gear installer is familiar with installing solid pinion spacers.)
a crush collar is a solid pinion sleeve
a crush collar is a solid pinion sleeve
When i first bought my 93 i desided to put 3.73 gears in it. So i took it apart and saw that the carrier assembley looked pretty rough. It wasnt making any noices yet but it just didnt look that great. didnt want to take it all apart anytime soon so went ahead and put a eaton posi trac in while i was doing to the gears. I could not believe the difference between the two.I was deffinitely glab i did it. Money well. spent

I got mine from a local performance store for 359.99 I dont know about labor i did it myself with a friend of mine who know what he was doing.

But obviously it was worth it. So it gives better stability and traction? That is awesome... ha Even for a launch for a drag race or something? Yea right, for traction... right? :-/

when i paid for new gears, eaton posi, and install it was about 800. pretty fair price all and all.
and yea i was talking about the crush sleve. you sure you are talking about the right thing? Ive always heard it refered to as a crush sleve being the regular stock thing, and a sloid pinion sleve as a reinforcment for the pinion gear.
