What years or models did the 58CC heads come in?
What years or models did the 58CC heads come in?
just looking for a set of 58cc heads and i'm having trouble. my stock 94 Z had 58's but one of them is ruined. so i was wondering what years and models to look for to find 58 cc lt1 aluminum heads. i tried the search, but was unsuccessful in finding an answer. sinced GM listed all the heads at 58 i believe, it's making it virtually impossible to find any 58cc heads. thanks
Re: What years or models did the 58CC heads come in?
54cc, I didn't know of a 58cc lt1 head. I hate how bottom ends show their estimated compression ratio for like 58, 64, 68cc heads. By the time you have an lt1 head milled you end up closer to 52.

Yeah after my port work, valve job and surface i ended up being right at 52
Re: What years or models did the 58CC heads come in?
AFRs come with a 58cc chamber...
But I had to unshroud the valves in the chamber and do a little work to add enough on an LT1 head to make a difference after milling.

most lt1 aluminums were 54cc, but some actually are 58cc. i had my stock heads milled a while ago and after the mill they were 56.6cc, implying that they were 58cc. i'd love to have another set, but it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

maybe llyod will come on here and post how to do it correctly so we know if are builders are doing it right. I would think there would only be one way too do it right? Doesn't seem like a hard concept.

If you ever used a graduated burrett in high school chem class you can CC a head.
Basically you put some grease on the valve faces and drop them in place, then use a piece of flat plexiglass with a single hole to cover the chamber with a little grease to seal the whole thing up, put in a spark plug and fill your burrett to 100cc, then fill the chamber and once it is full, the burrett will tell you how much fluid you poured in.

Re: What years or models did the 58CC heads come in?
.....I have seen a .012 shaved lt1 that measured 58 cc's (that would have been over 59cc's stock for sure). Several stock LT1's that were as little as 56cc's. So there is some variance for sure. I used stock Heat range spark plugs and a very accurate glass graduated burrett for all test (24 inch 100cc's).
