What is wrong with my Z28??
Ok this is weird, if my car is sitting at idle and not moving it is fine. But when the car takes off the orange service engine soon or check engine soon (can't remember which one) comes on and then I hear the cooling fans come on. Even if the engine is cold the fans still come on when my car starts to move. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my Camaro?
Check the fuse box under the hood pull the air pump fuse (20 AMP). It sounds like your air pump is popping the fuse. It probably doesn't do it in just drive. I bet it's when your car is warm and goes into closed loop.
There is a service bullient out for this. The problem is the wire going to the air pump gage is too small causing excess resistance. The fix is to replace the wire with the next larger gage and replace the 20 amp fuse with a 25 amp. It happen alot to car in the winter.
If it was the AIR pump fuse blowing, the SES would remain on all the time until you replaced it. Your description sounds like the SES is not on all the time.
BTW, the fans are designed to come on when the SES does.

Shoebox, I would agree with you any other time, but this is an exception.
Since I've been going through the Air Pump SES light all winter, I've noticed that the SES light and fans only come on when the car enters closed loop. Even whe I leave the blown fuse in. I've probably changed 15 fuses this winter and the same thing happens everytime. There has only been one time when I have started the car and the SES light came on immediately. That's why I stated above, that I think he only get's the SES light when it's warm. I'm assuming that he doesn't let it enter closed loop before he drives and that's why he notices it when he is driving.
Cerwin Vega, do you ever let your car fully warm up and enter closed loop before you drive it? If so does the SES light come on then too?

That would seem counter-intuitive.I have seen plenty of AIR pump posts that say the SES and fans come on as soon as the car is started. The factory manual says nothing about waiting until closed loop to set the DTC and light the SES.
I have no reason to dispute what you say about the way yours acts, but don't think it is normal.
I don't have any real personal experience with it so far. My origninal AIR pump is working fine (90k+ miles) and I have not had the recall done (I won't trust a dealer to touch my car for something like this).
back in the day when I even had AIR
my car went through the recall after I got the SES light..
as shoebox said, the car had the SES light on from the moment I cranked her over.. never went away until after the problem was fixed..

Hmmmmmm. Wonder what the problem could be? The only time I blow a fuse is when closed loop is achieved.
And the only code my Scanmaster throws is 29. The dealer isn't touching mine either. I'm just eliminating it.

Shoebox, the problem I was having before was the same as this guys and it was all because of the 20 amp fuse...might not be this guys problem but the description is the same, SES light only came on while driving and then at a stoplight for a few secs it would go off then come back on when I left the light...I had to swap my foglight fuse with the AIR fuse

Well, I am not saying don't try the fuse, but it all sounds pretty weird to me. Blown fuses cannot heal themselves.
There has to be something additional to the equation.
