What is wrong with my Z?!?!

I have a 94 Z28. The car will die every once in a while as I am driving. There is no sputtering either. It just dies instantly. I have taken it in to a couple of Chevy dealers and it never does it when it was there. They think it could possible be the ignition module and it only fails under load. I have a Jacobs Ignition and MSD wires with the stock distributor. Has this happened to anyone else, if so what was wrong. Thanks

possible opti, or coil problem. Probably is the aftermarket ignition. Mine went out and now i have to send it back....damn MSD

Edit: Does the car just shut off, and then you can start it right back up? Or does it die and then wont start, and then later down the road starts for no reason?

Check your battery cables...could be loose, corroded, or something. And your grounds.

Do you still get your accessories, radio, etc, when it dies?

Wonder if it's possible that your PCM is losing a ground and powering down...
It shouldn't be the opti if it's that intermittent. Maybe your ignition switch is going bad... fire it up and wiggle the key around, see if it kills it? I'm guessing, so I'm probably way off.

The car just dies. After a couple of minutes, it fires back up. The funny thing is that the dealership said the ignition had to get warmed up from driving, so I drove it around for 2 hours and it never died again. Then a couple of days ago going to work, 55 mph, 5 minute drive, it dies again. I still have power to everything else (radio, lights, etc). Battery cables are fine.

I had a bad PCM that would just stall out inexplicably but it threw codes one of which was pcm memory. Also my waterpump was leaking onto the opti. Every 20 to 80 miles it would cut out then maybe restart after a few minutes.

Look for ground straps and see if they are dirty and see if they are tight. Check the plugins on you pcm might wiggle and cut out. I dont know if any of this will work but cant hurt right?

Actually I just had an idea. Do you have a scanner or access to one? Next time your car dies, leave the key in the on position and hook up your scanner, see if the PCM is sending signals or not.

The codes are showing low voltage. Does that sound right? I just dont know what to do with this thing. Everytime I take it somewhere to show someone what it does, it doesnt die. It sat in a dealership for 1 1/2 hours running and never died!!

ignition control module... excessive heat soak can cause it to crap out...
So when ever the car is warmed up it'll die.

I'd just start changing stuff... From my opti experiences (which are many) the opti just tends to die and thats it...

I'd change out the coil and the ICM see if that fixes it..

Which code did it actually throw, there are lots of 'low voltage' codes to choose from.

yeah listen to your computer, its the smartest thing in your car! and it knows whats wrong. get an exact code. since you said the code was low voltage somewhere find out where!! its probably a worn or corroded wire somewhere. there are hundreds of reasons why your car can just suddenly die.

dont just go throwing random parts at it.
