What would cause water to drip (really fast) out of tailpipes?
What would cause water to drip (really fast) out of tailpipes?
Hey All,
My car ran hot yesterday while on the way home.
Today when I put it on the ramps, a good amount of water came out of the tailpipes and it ran hot instantly again. Also, all of my coolant was gone.
Could this be a waterpump gone bad or worse?
Car has been runing great otherwise.
Thanks..
I'm on my way to Autozone to get some more coolant

Headgasket!?
That's all I can think of but I am by no means an expert! It wasn't smoking or anything, or were you too worried about the temp guage to look in the mirror? (I would probably have been too worried)

Thanks guys,
I just got back from autozone.
I didn't notice any smoke coming from the tailpipes, but I wasn't looking for it either.
I just noticed when I put in some coolant that I have a leak at the connection where the hose exit the bottom of the waterpump and goes toward the passenger side of the car up into some metal hoses that are connected to the pass side of the car.
(What hose is that).
Do I need to drive the car down the road and see if smoke comes from the pipes. Will it be a lot of smoke or just a haze.
The LE heads have been on the car for about 2 months. They were milled just enough to make the suface flat and smooth.
I told him not to deck/mill them.

oh yeah, another thing. If the liquid in the tail pipes is just clear, than you probably just had some condensation in them as long as the leaky hose is whats causing you to loose coolant. If there was no leak then i would say headgasket. Fix the leak, put coolant in, and see what happens. If there is no smoke, and no lack of power, then you should be good

Water is one of the major products of combustion of hydrocarbons (gasoline) and oxygen (air).
You may have lucked out. Any leak in the system will drop the pressure which lowers the boiling point. Boiling water in the heads is a bad thing. You may have caught it just in time.
Just to check...
1 - ReBleed your cooling system with BOTH bleeders
2 - When the engine is cold, start the car then remove the radiator cap. As the coolant warms to the same temp at your thermostat you should see some flow in the radiator. Any AIR bubbles IS trouble.
3 - Check your oil periodically, not for level but for color. Make sure it doesn't look like chocolate syrup or chocolate milk.

Definitely a possibility! ....just depends on what "a good amount of water" adds up to I suppose.
Thanks for all the help.
The car is running well right now. I don't have any smoke of any kind and I also found a darn vacum leak while I was in there looking for the leak.
One of the lines that comes off the bottom of the opti was off.
The oil is fine. A few more miles and I will change back to fully synthetic. System was bled as well with both bleed screws.
I now pay more attention to the temp gauge after a scar like that.
I appreciate the advice
