What would cause tranny to not shift into OD automatically, but will manually
My A4 is doing that. If I floor it, it shifts fine. Also, if I manually shift it, into goes into OD just fine. When I drive around under normal acceration, it will shift, but not engage untill I let up on the gas, then it engages. The tranny has 28K on it after the rebuild, with Blue plate kevlar racing clutches. Is this something that can be caused by the ECM? I don't beat on it either, can't afford another rebuild. Thanks for your replys.
It depends on how hard your on the throtle. I had this issue with my 88' caprice. The speed at which it would shift into OD would varry but if i let up on the gas it would go right in as it would if i shifted it manually. Try on an open stretch of road, slowly accelerating letting the gears shift. If you reach about 50 mph the car should be in OD. The car may just think you want to accelerate cause your too hard on the throtle and is keeping it out of OD. I just got used to it and never worried about it.
I see your point, but when my car shifts into OD, it will shift, but not engae (RPM's soar, like in neutral) untill I let up on the gas, then it engages. This happens under normal driving only. Hard accerlaration and manual engagment into OD is just fine.
