I wanted true duals w/ bullets or twistes , but the California 2500 fine for no Cats scared the poop out of me. I think I'm gonna give this a shot. 3 inch Catco Cat Link:

I've got 2 of the 3-inch catco cats sitting in my room back home in Chicago right at the moment. They're stainless, pretty good quality. Like you, I'm going to bolt mine right up at the collector with flangs that I bought already but I'll have a 3" x-pipe welded onto them from there.

I can't remember the length of the cat off-hand. It wasn't too big but I'd say over a foot long easily. You can tell just by looking at it that you will NOT have ground clearance problems.

Let me know how it goes, my X-pipe won't be made until mid May

are you using longtubes or shorties? I plan on a move to LA and was going to install cats just in case they pull me over , I myself have longtubes, but hopefully I can find a place to pass when needed. I wanted to keep my existing X pipe but not so sure I can without clearance problems, I'll see in thenext couple weeks when I go down there to weld that stuff up. The cats themselves should be about 16 inches long, about 12 if you only include the body of the cat itself, the depth is 4inches high. I haven't found a cat yet that was smaller than this for better clearance, even expensive small ones aare 4 inches in diameter. You might have to weld them back farther from the collectors about 6-12 inches for better clearance, which might cause problems with the X since the torque arm gets fatter as you go back farther, my X is as high up as possible and Yet I must still slow down to almost a stop to avoid scraping. I have also read if you put the X behind the cats not in front of headers it will cause the X not to function as well. Something to think about before spending money on an X. I plan on putting cut outs right after the collectors then the cats, this way I get max performance for the track.

So do you know much about the fines, I recently posted about this but didn't get much. Do they aautomatically charge you 2,500 bucks or do they have to prove you removed them, and do cops out there look if they suspect something? I just don't see a point taking chances, rather pay 100-150 bucks now rather than 2,500 later!

TTT.

I actually found out now for CA it's 5K a Cat!! DOH!! hmm..I was also thinking about doing 2.5 Cats (cost 10 bucks more a piece) and putting them after the X..but then..they're obviously in the wrong position(still fix-it ticket in Cali)..might get too much crap from an officer, but still semi-legal. Any ideas??

I wouldn't run the cats to far away from the header collectors cause they won't heat up as well, this is why the government prohibits the cat to be moved to a new location, they figure the car manufacturer has found the ideal spot. I'm not positive but if they don't heat up, I think they will clog early on in life. I suppose having an X will help regardless, and will lower the soundlevel. This weekend, maybe tomorrow I will go underneath my car and see how my stock cats look, to see if the X can be had with the cats, and Ill post to let you know. You could put the cats in there with them going up at an angle into the X but the ground clearance will suffer. Without the X you could easily squeeze them up closer inside the tunnel. Far as price on cats, I found this place that is selling them at a discount price for another week 50 bucks for any size, and they are the good soundcats(they are supposed to be one of the best flowing) Husker High Performance 1-888-413-7767
