What would cause a rocker to come off the pr?

I have a set of proform 1.6 roller rockers, magnum pr's, and cc hydraulic lifters. I adjusted the lash to what i thought was correct, and start the car. Car runs fine at idle, back it up a bit and pull it forward, shut it off. Try to start it again and the exhaust rr on cyl 1 was off the push rod. so i put it back on, and later today the rr on exhaust cyl 5 came off.

Whats the deal? Improper lash adjustment or are the locks backing off?

are your heads set up for SA rockers? there needs to be space for the sides of the rockers adjusting mechanism to align with on the end of the valve - for non SA rockers the retainer is almost flush with the top of the valve.

this is set up for non self-aligning rockers - if your setup looks like this than you need to get different rockers - also, Proform rockers aren't the best rockers in my opinion

I know proform arent the best rockers but they shouldnt be bouncing off the pushrod regardless. Could improper lash adjustment cause what i am describing?

That would be my guess. How much preload did you use? What rocker nuts are you using?

Assuming the alignment tabs are not an issue, I would first suspect improper adjustment.

i went out and adjusted them with the car running. It seems the locks keep backing off. The same rockers i had pop off are the ones i have to keep retightening. Anything i can do to fix this minus getting new locks?

Could this be another problem? like a lifter problem of something like that?

The ends of your stock rocker studs are probably not machined and not providing any bite for the locks. Suggest you switch to ARP studs which should elimininate that problem. JMHO

Come on man If it doesn't stay tight any longer than running then that Loctite won't help. Get some new studs and get it over with!

I've had rockers come off when a valve spring broke, and I've had rockers come off when I adjusted the valve lash but forgot to tighten the polylock. My guess is you forgot to tighten the lock. If you had a rocker fly off, check your push rods. Mine bent when it happened to me.
