What would cause this? (Electrical)

I was driving to work this morning and my cd player lost power. I thought it skipped so I looked down. As I looked down all of the dummy lights came on in the dash (By all, I mean all). I looked at the dash and was like WTF. Then the lights all went off and the cd player came right back on.

Why would all of the lights flash and the radio die, and then come right back? My first thought was the alternator, but everything came right back and worked fine and the car never stumbled or anything. I am also assuming it is electrical as I don't know.

It may be unrelated, but the car has been starting with a stumble (like there just isn't enough power to turn it over) in the mornings after it has been sitting for a day or two. I have also gone through 2 batteries in a year and a half. The current battery is about 1 month old.

It might be unrelated, but I am most curious as to why the dummy lights all flashed and the radio died and then came back.

Thanks in advance.
Sean

Start with the simple things. Get your Batt. checked at autozone or equivilant. If it's good, check the alternator. I'm betting it's that. My friend had problems exactly like that and it turned out to be the alternator. I had a similar problem in my Z and it was the colum ignition switch. Check that after you do the above. If you need a new switch its 20$ for AC Delco at Autozone.

Could be a loose ground wire, accessory relay, loose fuse, loose power connection, just some other possibilities.

I also had similar problems with my car and like raceryan, I had to put in a new column switch at the bottom of the column. You may also want to check that all of the prongs on the harness going into that switch are making good contact. I had to go in with a screw driver and tweak mine a bit and haven't had any trouble since.

Good luck, electrical is no fun to chase. Let us know how you make out
